Alpha Testing Notes

5.1.5

Build 4

What’s New Since Build 3

Tester changelog since Build 3. Prepared for the next TestFlight release.

Campaign Management

  • Added Select Your Campaign after the opening Begin Adventure button.
  • Create and name multiple campaigns, continue an existing Company, or delete a campaign with confirmation.
  • Each campaign has separate characters, progression, gold, supplies, equipment, cosmetics, and saves.
  • New campaigns start fresh and retain the existing opening prologue.
  • Existing saves are imported into the campaign system without requiring an intentional reset.
  • Campaign lists scroll as more campaigns are created.

Game Menu and Saving

  • Added a central Game Menu for Resume, Save/Load, Campaigns, and Settings, plus Quit on desktop.
  • Return to campaign selection without closing the application.
  • Choose Save & Leave, Leave Without Saving, or Cancel.
  • Leaving without saving discards progress back to the last loaded or explicitly saved checkpoint. Quick and manual saves remain intact.
  • Autosaving still protects against unexpected interruptions.
  • Cleaned up redundant menu controls, headings, and campaign notification placement.

Choose Your Adventure

  • Added an illustrated Adventure Library, reached through Venture Forth in town.
  • Adventures appear as vintage book covers featuring the Tales from Oddwater logo.
  • Forsaken Woods displays the campaign’s difficulty and offers Start Adventure or Resume Expedition.
  • Added an unavailable Adventure 2 preview. No second playable adventure is included yet.

Exploration Map and Travel

  • The map remains available while exploring, including midway through a location.
  • Opening the map does not automatically grant travel access.
  • Travel and Return to Town become available at valid entrance or completed-exit travel points.
  • Closing the map returns you to the same location and position.
  • From a valid travel point, revisit unlocked locations without needing to move through every adjacent location.
  • Travel between locations is free and places the party at the destination’s entrance.
  • Cleared encounters, collected treasure, and other location progress remain preserved.
  • Improved current-location indicators, available routes, and new/completed destination states.
  • Navigation actions use clearer red TRAVEL buttons.
  • Return to Town retains its existing provision/gold costs and confirmation.
  • Viewing the map during combat pauses the encounter behind it and does not allow travel.

Characters, Dialogue, and Sound

  • Xov’s Vanish: her equipped appearance becomes a solid black silhouette instead of fading nearly out of sight. Normal artwork returns when stealth ends.
  • Dialogue portraits: the Company portrait now shows the forward living party member with their equipped attire. The existing head crop and portrait layout are unchanged.
  • Level-up sounds: rapid Guild Hall level-ups play overlapping dings rather than skipping sounds.
  • Party selection: fixed lingering hover shading on town character cards, including touch interaction. The selected character remains highlighted normally.

Visual Polish

  • Adjusted the lobby’s Begin Adventure button to clear the border artwork.
  • Added and refined Adventure Library artwork and cover-logo placement.
  • Included updated Old Road ground artwork.

Testing and Stability

  • Completed the full rules regression suite, including 100 complete adventure runs.
  • Passed campaign/save isolation, recovery, migration, and save/discard checks.
  • Passed 180 controller checks across four aspect ratios.
  • Verified exploration movement, ground alignment, and scenery coverage.
  • Standalone Windows build completed with zero errors. Physical iPad validation remains part of the Mac build process.

Suggested Tester Focus

  • Create two campaigns and verify that their progress and saves stay separate.
  • Test both saving and discarding before switching campaigns.
  • Try Adventure Library Start/Resume and back navigation.
  • Open the map midway through exploration, then compare travel availability at an entrance or completed exit.
  • Revisit cleared locations and confirm content stays cleared.
  • Check Xov’s stealth, dialogue portraits with different party orders/attire, rapid level-up sounds, and touch selection highlights.
