Alpha Testing Notes

5.4.2

Build 20

Notes posted

What’s New Since Build 19

The road into Oddwater has a new beginning. Beyond it, the Boglands wait: lantern-lit water, questionable hospitality and a very old tree.

Highlights

  • A new opening movie: a 54-second 4K introduction for new Companies, followed by the familiar Veyr sequence.
  • Boglands world preview: walk ten illustrated locations, including the darker Coven interior and branching routes around Frog Camp.
  • A clearer view: adventure, location and difficulty share one compact information panel beneath the road.
  • Health shading trial: translucent red marks missing health on hero plaques and creature health strips.

Availability

These notes describe the selected 5.4.2 (20) source handoff, not an Apple app release. Native Apple qualification and internal TestFlight delivery remain pending. Build 19 is the latest confirmed iOS delivery. Boglands is a world walkthrough awaiting its story-content pass; no new completed adventure or Apple TV TestFlight release is announced.

A new arrival in Oddwater

The lobby now places its logo and Created by Dan and Colin Lastoria credit independently over the scenery, keeping them neatly positioned across display shapes. Begin Adventure still opens Company selection. Creating a new Company starts the new movie; continuing an existing Company does not replay it.

The centered logo briefly appears over the film and then fades. Watch to the end or use Skip to enter Veyr’s introduction, encounter and aftermath before reaching town. Touch, mouse and controller Skip are supported. The supplied 4K, 24-frame-per-second movie retains its original quality, using letterboxing or a modest centered crop to suit the screen. Old opening films, narration and superseded artwork are excluded from the runtime resource payload.

Through the Boglands

Adventure Six opens as a ten-location world preview, with its own swamp foundation, panoramas, transitions, map and illustrated introductions. Story encounters and recruitment are still being written. Walk the whole route and explore its branches without treating this preview as final gameplay content.

The Coven’s darker hut interior looks through transparent windows onto the cool night swamp. Furnishings better match the party’s scale, and the cave transition beyond Dark Swamp sits more firmly against the road. Shorter map labels and authored offsets help on phone screens.

Boat and door journeys around Frog Camp now return the party to the corresponding arrival point. Ordinary entrances keep their usual behavior, and saving and reloading retains the party’s position.

More scenery, less scattered information

The upper-left title panel is gone. A compact bottom heading now reads adventure / location (difficulty), with only the adventure name in bold. A fine divider separates it from the brief description. The panel, travel arrows and action button sit beneath the road, with additional text clearance and shorter captions where needed.

Tell us what you think of health shading

This build enables an experimental translucent red region over the missing-health portion of hero plaques and creature health strips. It grows inward from the right as health is lost, leaving armor shields clear and respecting the normal damage-reveal timing. It changes no health, damage or healing rules.

This is for internal review. Does it help you judge remaining health, or distract from the artwork? Please tell us. There is no player-facing on/off setting yet; future treatment depends on feedback.

Compatibility and testing

Existing Companies, saves, earned unlocks and the four-book difficulty gate are preserved. Black Tundra remains a development preview, and books 7–10 remain Coming soon. Moonbones remains unlimited for internal testing. No save wipe, balance change or cloud-save system is introduced.

Try both full movie playback and Skip, then resume an existing Company. Walk every Boglands route in both directions, especially the Frog Camp boat and Coven door. Check the footer, map labels, window parallax and health shading on phone, tablet and wide screens. Repeat walking, dice, audio, save/load and background/resume checks.

On Apple devices, report movie stutter, audio drift or unexpected exits. Include your device, OS, build, location, party, difficulty and reproduction steps; screenshots and short recordings are helpful. Thank you for helping us polish Tales from Oddwater!
