Alpha Testing Notes
5.4.3
Build 21
Notes posted
Lights, spells, and a little more thunder
Oddwater comes alive in motion and sound: a refreshed 4K campaign opening, five adventure films, and a much richer battle soundscape. Build 21 gathers the entire cinematic and audio refresh into one big content update.
Highlights
- Six films, one wonderfully strange world: a refreshed 54-second campaign opening joins five adventure films, each available again from its own Intro Video button.
- Subtitles keep their lantern lit: English subtitles cover all six films, with a saved on/off choice in Settings → Audio.
- Battle finds more voices: the combat catalogue now holds 259 WAVs in all, with 141 retained takes across 48 cue families in this expansion—plus the Dreadbell.
- Two new celebrations: owner-selected recordings give Adventure Complete and Company Rank their proper moment in the lantern light.
- Quieter fuss, clearer roads: sturdier controller focus, clearer Save and Load descriptions, and a more reachable phone interface.
Availability
These notes describe the sealed 5.4.3 (21) source handoff, not a newly delivered Apple build. Native iOS/iPad qualification, Apple upload, TestFlight and local TV delivery remain pending. Build 20 is the latest confirmed iOS delivery. Black Tundra remains a development preview, Boglands remains a world preview, and no new completed adventure is announced.
Five adventures take the screen
New Companies begin with a refreshed 54-second 4K campaign opening, then arrive at Veyr as before. The Forsaken Woods, Heart of the Forest, Lost Dungeons, Burning City and Black Tundra each now have their own adventure film. Choose Intro Video on those five book pages whenever curiosity strikes; finishing, skipping or backing out returns you to that same book and difficulty, without starting an expedition, changing a save or granting a reward.
The films received their own little bits of Oddwater mischief: a revised Forsaken Woods fire gag, a stronger Heart opening, an updated Lost Dungeons tale, and tuned Burning City and Black Tundra captions. The pictures may be dramatic. The book shelf remains dependable.
Captions and a fuller soundscape
English subtitles are controlled in Settings → Audio. The on/off preference is saved; a fresh or missing preference begins on, while an existing off choice stays off. Subtitles stay in step with the movie.
Combat now has dedicated sounds for skills, status effects, restoration, creatures and boss preparation. This is an expanded catalogue, not 259 brand-new noises: the final addition carries 141 retained takes across 48 cue families, plus the Dreadbell. Ordinary effects can overlap naturally, while a crowded mix drops a new ordinary effect rather than cutting off a sound already playing. Two new owner-selected celebration recordings give Adventure Complete and Company Rank their moment, once only.
More reliable paths through the menus
Stale controller focus during page changes is cleared, including in ledgers and context help. The IN PROGRESS label has clearer breathing room. Desktop Save and Load now provide four clearer save descriptions, while the compact phone layout keeps its important targets at a reachable 44 points.
Exploration action captions have more room to breathe. Movie cleanup now covers the usual detours—watching through, skipping, backing out and leaving the screen—without losing the chosen book or difficulty. Existing Companies, saves, settings, progression and unlocks remain intact.
Testing notes
Try the campaign opening, each available book film and the return path from Watch, Skip and Back. Toggle subtitles in Audio, close and reopen the game, and make sure the choice persists. Listen for variety in combat, restoration and celebrations; repeated screen draws or save recovery should not replay a settled celebration.
Please also test controller and touch navigation, long captions, Save and Load, save recovery, background/resume, and a few longer sessions. On Apple devices, report stutter, audio drift, heat or unexpected exits with your device, OS, build, location, party, difficulty and reproduction steps. Thank you for helping Oddwater keep its lanterns trimmed.
