5.5.1

Build 24

Notes posted

A little more thunder on the battlefield

Spells have somewhere to go. Axes have a little more weight. And the Company has a clearer view of what just happened. Build 24 brings a substantial illustrated combat upgrade and a broad interface polish pass.

Highlights

  • Watch the action: layered casting, travel, impacts, recoil and lighting for attacks, spells and boss moves.
  • Know your condition: consistent party and enemy status displays, clearer Help and substantial black Sapped roots.
  • Play by controller: stronger focus, directional routes and more consistent default actions.
  • Find the next adventure: bold burned-in library guidance, with the familiar red bookmark retained.
  • Keep the scene: a frozen outgoing screen and gently pulsing eye carry longer transitions.

Availability

5.5.1 (24) is source-ready for native iOS qualification and test-iPad review. TestFlight delivery is not yet confirmed. Apple TV builds are deferred. Black Tundra and Boglands remain development previews.

Physical strikes, purposeful magic

Attacks and spells gain preparation, movement, contact and recovery. Fire, frost, lightning, healing, protection and boss signatures use distinct illustrated treatments. Effects follow the committed actor and targets, with damage and feedback coordinated around the existing dice reveal. Arena and the opening battle share the upgraded presentation.

The spell and pouch menus close before a selected action starts its animation. While choosing, party members and enemies remain targetable; use Back/B to dismiss the menu without spending an action.

Conditions at a glance

Party status frames, enemy health plates, character sheets and Help now share one condition list. Compact frames reserve two lines and show +N when more effects are active; Help supplies the complete details. Short messages such as BALM ENDED keep the battlefield clear.

Sapped has larger black roots that scale with the character. Thul’s Blackwood Cleave is more likely to apply Sapped; its existing cadence and damage remain unchanged.

Read, navigate, continue

Controller navigation follows visible rows and columns, focus is stronger, and primary actions receive more consistent initial selection. Bumpers browse real tabs or enemies; triggers select party members where applicable. Initiative starts on Roll Initiative.

Conversation frames stay stable, reading areas fit complete prose, and selected copy is shorter. Short captions no longer need an oversized backing. First Night navigation, dialogue borders and ultrawide button labels receive follow-up fixes. Town scenery and the tarot board remain decorative.

Books, bottles and the road between

The library receives new wood treatment and bold IN PROGRESS and NEXT ADVENTURE lettering while retaining progression rules and the red bookmark. Longer transitions preserve the outgoing scene behind a large pulsing eye; fast transitions may finish before it is noticeable.

Strange Brew presents a saved daily order of three potions from a larger prompt pool. A failed mixture ends the attempt with the Company escaping unhurt. Existing Companies, settings, rewards and the six accepted films remain supported. Moonbones stays uncapped for this testing milestone.

When native testing begins

Try ordinary and boss fights, multi-target spells, healing, stacked conditions and target selection with a menu open. Watch repeated battles for stutter or lingering effects. Check controller routes, complete text, loading transitions, saves and background/resume on your device. Send your device, OS, input method, party, difficulty and reproduction steps; screenshots and short recordings are especially useful.
